Dulkaninna Station has traditionally run a Hereford herd. The 1990's saw the introduction of Angus with the aim to capitalise on hybrid vigour and selected traits. Most of our cattle are sold between 12-15 months to feedlots. We are continually selecting for quiet temperament and have been yard weaning sale cattle for the last two years.

Management Methods

An adaptive management system is used on Dulkaninna. Decisions such as stocking rates; when to sell; when to destock and when to restock are based on seasonal variability, land condition and stock condition. Management tools include internal fencing; holding paddocks and a GAB water reticulation system. Another important factor in successful adaptive management has been the advent of better roads and transport which allows stock to be quickly shifted, either to sale, to restock or to be moved internally.
